PROJECT 1 - Collage & Digital Imaging (20%)

Project 1 (Week 2 - Week 6):

1. Project 1A (10%)

    a. Physical Collage (5%)

Week 2 - press to show details

(final selection)

skills learnt - Composition, Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio

After mastering these skills, I learnt how to place pieces in my collage for maximum impact. For
example, placing major elements such as the bread, painted face, and text cut-outs positioned at the
bottom left in balanced places naturally guides the viewer's gaze over the artwork, creating harmony
         and a visually interesting flow.

    b. Digital Collage (5%)

Week 3 - press here to show details

Week 4 - press here to show details

(final selection)

skills learnt - Photoshop's Lasso Tools, Pen Tools, Layering, Adjustment, Filter

Through learning the skills, I’ve gained control over each element in my digital collage. I can now
precisely isolate images, balance layers, and enhance colours to make the composition more
cohesive and attractive. These skills bring depth and refinement to my work.

2. Project 1B (10%)

    a. Hearst Mansion (5%)

Week 5 - press here to show details

(Shazam)

(my reflection)

skills learnt - Photoshop's Quick Selection Tool, Layer Mask, Filters, Colour Correction

Applying these skills has enabled me to merge objects such as "Shazam" (in the first image) and
"Myself" (in the second image) seamlessly into the scene. Using reflection techniques, I achieved
a realistic integration of characters, increasing the depth and coherence of my artwork.

       b. Recolouring Black & White (5%)

(artwork 1)

(artwork 2)

(artwork 3)

             skills learnt - Photoshop's Recolouring

Through learning recolouring skills, I was able to transform black-and-white photos into vivid,
lifelike images, as seen above. This skill has taught me how to bring selective colour to specific
elements, adding personality and depth. It has improved my ability to express emotions and
highlight unique features in my artwork.

Overall Reflection :

Looking back on the past six weeks, I’m amazed at how much my approach to creating art has evolved. Along with learning new technical skills, I also discovered that each task challenged me to think more deeply and consider how each element within an artwork serves a purpose, whether to guide the viewer’s attention, set a mood, or add layers of meaning. By working with both physical and digital collage, I was able to develop a new level of intentionality. This process has made me more confident in my abilities and more willing to experiment with techniques that can enhance my art.

Beyond the technical proficiency, this journey has taught me the power of creative control and fine details in expressing my ideas. As I progressed to more complex projects like the Hearst Mansion Breakdown and Recolouring black & white photographs, I began to understand how colour, reflection, and layering could each be used to evoke emotions or highlight specific features in my work. From arranging collages with balance and flow to skilfully combining elements into complex digital scenes, I’ve learned how to create harmony that captures viewers and motivates them to explore.

Overall, these six weeks have improved my technical abilities and enriched my creative expression. This journey is a challenging yet rewarding experience. I'm satisfied with how much I’ve developed, and I’m looking forward to seeing how these abilities will influence my future work.
